While the excitement for the world’s foremost sports competition is building, London 2012 Olympics logo has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. There have been fierce criticisms from the general public over the vagueness of design and its unscrupulous allusion to an objectionable human pose. It’s a good time to have a look at Olympic logos over the years… the good, the bad, and the ugly!

It’s Australia Day people! I feel like doing something quintessentially Aussie… no, not getting a Southern Cross tattoo, pissing on down at the beach and starting an all-in brawl with the local ‘ethnics’… something much more Aussie than that! Thats right I’m going to claim a famous man from across the ‘ditch’ as our own!
Mr Reg Mombassa (born Chris O’Doherty in New Zealand, 1951… location irrelevant cause he’s an Aussie today
) is responsible for one of the most recognisable creative styles in our history. I challenge anyone NOT to identify a poster/painting/drawing/print/logo as ‘Made by Reg Mombassa.’ Reg made the Mambo brand unique when they started using his creations to promote their clothing line. He’s also a founding member of Mental As Anything!
The poster above is one of my favourite Mombassa creations… and it adorned the back of my folder in high school… covered in Contact for posterity of course. It’s called ‘Mambo Biology: Human Reproduction’ and it outlines the instructions for ‘sexual congress.’ It’s recommended reading if you can track one down…
Check out Reg’s website for more… Happy Australia Day!!

You can’t afford to skimp on logo design. The most successful logos on the planet may not be the most elaborate, but they are memorable. Having your logo top of mind is critical… easily recognisable, relevant, simple and effective. You won’t find homemade, clip-art infused, low resolution logos representing successful companies… and there’s no need to settle for one yourself! Great article for anyone considering a new logo or even a redesign by @AinsleyBevis
Interesting article this one… I totally agree that marketing as we once knew it is dead and buried. People don’t have time for verbose sales pitches and walls of copy invading their eyeballs…
It may be hyperbole, but copy as we know it is nearly useless. Why is that? First we must define what copy is: copy is marketing text designed to persuade users to take action. Today, copy is less successful at persuading users and moving them forward than it has been in the past. Marketing and branding is changing, especially on the web.
